A World of His Own
Maan Jacinto

He started painting at the age of eight. And at twenty-two, he held his second one-man exhibit at the KaffeSining. A rear feat for one so young.

A contemporary artist, Anthony Nanola II's art exhibition is entitled "Empyrean." Using mixed media, his art art exhibit features varied themes such as dreams, nostalgia, masks, and diaries of places he's been to-all expressed through his paintings that are surreal in style and form.

When asked about what motivates to paint, he said painting allows him to express himself. He sees this form of art as a wonderful way of imparting his thoughts on life and the experiences he's been through. His paintings that carries the theme of masks aims to portray the pretensions people employ in their daily lives. His paintings that depicts the festivity of the Filipino culture tells of his travels in the different parts of the Philippines.

Nanola said that painting is a combination of skill, determination and dedication. He said that to find self-fulfillment in this art, one must strive to discover his own style and identity. He doesn't allow the fact that he came from a family of artists to herald his own merits for he can truly stand alone, and be a part of the third generation of Filipino painters. A true inspiration for others like: young, creative and unconventional.
