The name: Suggested by Nini Biscocho on July 28, 2000 during a CYBJORN meeting, owls was supposed to be just a simple term that would further describe the website which features Filipino youth who usually hang out especially on a weekend or a Saturday night. As we all know, owls do have an inverted body clock. They are asleep during the day and wide-awake during night time. Basically, most of the youth nowadays are comparable to an owl in the sense that most of their "happenings" and parties do occur during the night and extends until the morning of the next day.

The name "owls" was later turned to an acronym, O.W.L.S., and was given the name "Out With Late Sleepers". "Out With" since it would be a live coverage and the creators of this page will be the one to witness and experience with the youth an event on that particular time and place. "Late Sleepers" is the term used pertaining to the youth who obviously stays up late for a gimik or for a well-enjoyed night life.
